ASHIARAI YASHIKI
Lore
Legends speak of a samurai enjoying an evening tea with his son and a maid, when the household was rocked by a most peculiar event. As they sat chatting over a warm cup, the roof tiles suddenly groaned, the house began to tremble, and from somewhere above came a thunderous crash-followed by a giant, hairy foot, streaked with mud and blood, bursting down through the ceiling. "Wash me!" it bellowed.
According to lore, if the head of the house complied-rushing for soap and water to cleanse the monstrous appendage-it would then vanish until the next night, leaving the family unscathed.
If he refused, the colossal foot would stomp the home into ruin, crushing everything (and everyone) inside.
In yokai stories, Ashiarai Yashiki appears as a violent test of hospitality, obedience, and fear inside the home itself.
