Glasya-Labolas is one of the bleakest and most intellectually over-charged figures in the demonological tradition. This spirit stands as a paradoxical fusion of enlightener and executioner, offering his adherents instant mastery of the sciences at the price of committing murder.

Glasya-Labolas’s manifestation is among the most recognizable—and at the same time the most terrifying—in the Goetic pantheon. He is traditionally described as a dog with the wings of a griffin. This image is not a random assortment of traits but a carefully constructed symbolic code.

The canine aspect relates to the functions of threshold guardian, psychopomp, and relentless pursuer; hence the epithets “captain of all assassins” and “author of bloodshed.” The griffin wings, rather than merely eagle wings, underscore the blend of earthly might and celestial vigilance: their huge span and special feather structure are said to withstand magical attacks, allowing the demon to hover over a battlefield unseen by mortals. In occult practice he can assume human form—a young warrior with short dark-golden hair, sun-tanned skin, a cold penetrating gaze, and a harsh guttural voice.

The entity’s origin is tied to angelic orders, where he was considered a gifted student striving for absolute knowledge until he fell and was numbered among the seventy-two spirits sealed by Solomon. His favored haunts are places where knowledge and violence intersect: abandoned academies, the fields of great battles, and sites of unsolved crimes.
