PACU PATI

A powerful lord of ghouls and revenants who haunts cemeteries and execution grounds.
Type: Large fiend (demon, shapechanger), chaotic evil Habitat: Cemeteries, execution grounds Region: India

Lore

In Indian demonology, Pacu Pati occupies a central place as the commander of the vampire-like revenant race known as the pishachas, malicious spirits that feed on raw flesh and blood. The name Pacu Pati, drawn from Tamil and Sanskrit roots, translates literally to lord of the herd or master of human cattle. In this demonic context, the meaning is grimly inverted: humans are regarded as mere livestock for the slaughter and consumption of his necrophagous community.

Pacu Pati is the apex of a racial pyramid, ruling over pishachas who are considered the most hostile of all unclean beings in the Vedic system. His name is synonymous with Death itself in older legends, signifying a supreme ruler who stands above the entire hierarchy of malevolent night spirits. He does not hunt as a lone monster but as a sovereign general, directing his community of demons to systematically hollow out settlements and feast upon the fallen.

The arch-demon's physical form is a stark departure from the typical European vampire. His body is a deep, bluish-black obsidian color, making him virtually invisible within nighttime shadows. Veins swell beneath his skin, flickering with a dim red-orange glow from the blood he has absorbed. He possesses bloodshot eyes capable of tracking the astral emissions of the living, long limbs tipped with jagged claws for prying open graves, and a mouth filled with shark-like teeth and a darting, needle-thin tongue.

Beyond his physical prowess, Pacu Pati is a master of deception. He can shift his shape into that of a tiger, a hyena, a wolf, or even an alluring woman to lure victims into his grasp. However, his supernatural nature can never be fully suppressed; a sinister red gleam always persists in his eyes, and his shadow remains perpetually distorted, serving as a final warning to those who might otherwise be charmed by his illusions.
